It is very exciting to look around and see the fields before us: the Word of God is being spread across
the planet like never before. Seeds are being planted, watered, and harvested before our eyes.
Reports of healings and deliverance are becoming more common; Spirit-revealed teachings and prophecy are
in abundance. God is pouring out His Spirit upon all flesh.
But we are not so different from men and women of old. "The thing that has been - it is what will
be again, and that which has been done is that which will be done again; and there is nothing new under the sun." (Eccl.1:9)
There are the same temptations and tendencies that have existed from the beginning, and one such tendency
is to focus on and lift up leaders in the Body of Christ instead of the God behind the leader.
Over time I have come to learn and love how God teaches, empowers, and promotes those who show themselves
trustworthy. Promotion can be a tricky thing, however.
Suddenly the gifts which were given to further God's Kingdom purposes are in the spotlight. This can
lead in one of two directions: either it will point to God and exalt His Name, or it will magnify the person holding
the gift.
In a dream I saw a figure, invisible except for the beautiful coat she was wearing. She had the
ability to fly and was trying to escape from an enemy who just barely missed catching her several times. It seemed
she was out of breath from the constant effort.
In my dream, I remember thinking, "If she just took that coat off, her enemy wouldn't be able to see
her."
There is a beauty to the gifts and mantles God puts upon His people. But if not properly handled, they
become an open door for the enemy. God's gifts are not like a flashy new dress, worn to attract attention,
but rather a treasure which should be hidden under a cloak of humility.
But don't worry. This cloak of humility will not suppress the treasure, but only magnify the One Who
gave it.
"And Jesus answered them, 'The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified and exalted.' " (John 12:23)
