Wow! Time flies!
It has been almost seven weeks since I updated this column. Now, to the casual observer,
this might indicate that nothing is happening - that there really isn't anything to write about. On the contrary. It has been the most amazing six weeks I can probably ever remember.
I once had a vision of God playing a game of chess - patiently moving all the many pieces to
get everything lined up perfectly for what He wanted to accomplish. He wasn't anxious or worried, and He had a
very specific plan and strategy in mind. Many times over the years, this vision has encouraged me as I pushed to persevere
in prayer and worship. I just knew God had a purpose and was working it all out as I submitted to His leading.
Only God can see the whole picture, and so I trusted Him to make the perfect decisions.
Seasons of waiting with our limited view can be very difficult! At times God opens our
spiritual eyes and gives us a bigger look at the board, but even then we are limited in our understanding. We must simply
hold onto the truth and faithfulness of who God is, and to the Word He has spoken to our spirits.
Then, one glorious day, the pieces begin to fall into place. The mysteries and riddles
begin to make sense. The perseverance pays off. And the "complicated, many-sided wisdom of God in all its
infinite variety and innumerable aspects [is] now made known to the angelic rulers and authorities (principalities and powers)
in the heavenly sphere." (Eph. 3:10)
Praise God! What an amazing thought! The God of the universe is truly and totally
in tune with the big picture. He has always had a purpose, and continues to have a purpose - to show the depths of His
unfathomable wisdom through His Son and His church.
I must say that at times God's plan didn't look very wise to me. At times it didn't look
like He was doing anything at all. But as I went back to His Word, over and over again, I was promised that He had a
purpose and that nothing could stop or hinder it. So, as I bowed my life and my will to Him, His plan moved forward.
Where are you right now? Are you holding onto the Word of God as the waves of doubt or
fear rush over you? How about waves of weariness or discouragement? I have felt all of these waves, and as I cried
out for God's grace, He lovingly enabled me to hang on.
God's wisdom is unequaled. God's wisdom is unerring. And as we see it unfold before
our very eyes, it is unforgettable - "so important and forceful so as never to be forgotten." (Webster's Dictionary)
