Just a Thought
Biblical Nutrition

Genesis 2:9
"And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil."

I am amazed when I see what our awesome God has done for us.  One thing He did was He gave us trees.  Just think about how many uses they have.  Trees are used to build homes, barns, fences, and a multitude of other things - even jewelry.  They provide homes for many different kinds of birds and shelter for various animals.  And my favorite:  there is nothing like burning a woodstove on a cold winter's day or night to warm a cold body.  As kids we climbed trees.  The bigger trees were really good for playing hide and seek.

Nutritionally, trees are not only good for the fruit and nuts they produce, but for other properties as well.  For example:

Juniper Tree:  used for bladder, kidneys, and rheumatism.
White Oak Bark:  used for varicose veins; tightens and keeps loose teeth in place.  Also used for circulation and swollen glands.  I took this instead of wearing support hose.
Slippery Elm Bark:  North American Indian tribes used this for wounds, boils, and skin disease.  Also is soothing for the bowel.
Black Walnut Tree:  the shell around the nut is used to kill parasites in the bowel.  It also builds enamel on teeth and is good for the thyroid.
White Pine Tree:  great for headaches.
Tea Tree:  comes from South America.  The bark of this tree is used for yeast infection and lotion for the skin.
Olive Tree:  known as Queen of the Trees, there are a multitude of uses for olive oil.  Take 1 oz. olive oil and 1 oz. lemon juice everyday to keep the liver healthy.

These are just a few of the reasons God put trees here for our use.  One thing I don't want to forget, however, is the beauty of trees.  In the East, after a long winter it is awesome to see the trees come alive with blossoms - the Dogwood with its branches covered in white flowers and the Red Bud with clusters of small red blossoms.  And the fall is always something to behold.  There are numerous oak trees and each one has a different color leaf, from maroon to yellow.  Here in Wyoming we also have the red bushes of fall and the yellow of the aspen, gold of the cottonwood and the beautiful dark green of the pine and firs.  Isn't the glory of God's creation awesome?  Go out into the woods and taste the beauty around you.

Rev. 22:1-2
"And the angel showed me a pure river with the water of life clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, coursing down the center of the main street.  On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month.  The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations."
