Do you ever look around and get discouraged, thinking that nothing lasts forever? Garbage
litters most every corner - garbage that was once something of value and worth. Money is spent in unimaginable
amounts every minute for items which will soon be left behind, rusted, rotten, and forgotten.
I remember a special day, years ago, when the Spirit opened my eyes to see something that does
last forever.
As I sat on our couch and spoke out words of praise and love towards the Lord, I saw each
word come from my mouth in a solid, physical form - each word an object flowing from my lips. Then, instead of
dissipating into thin air, these words rose up higher and higher, until they entered into the heavens above.
There, among the black skies of the universe, traveling in the company of stars, galaxies, and
planets were words that had only recently left my body. They joined millions of other words, circling the universe for
all ages.
The Spirit spoke to me that our words of praise, thanksgiving, and worship are not such that
are here one moment and gone the next. We may not hear them after they fade from our mouths, but in reality, they never
end. Every word of praise we have ever spoken is still being spoken, again and again for all of eternity, to the glory
of God. Every song describing the beauty and love of our King is still reverberating throughout the universe.
I have often thought of this vision and the picture it paints. It was not until two weeks
ago that I experienced it in its magnificence.
We had gone to a ranch in the mountains of Idaho to record a new CD. After hours of work,
we took a night together to concentrate just on Him - worshipping with no strings attached and no requests made.
We wanted only for Him to know and receive our love and devotion.
After several hours, we lingered, not wanting to leave this place of rest and beauty. Several
wandered back to their rooms while a few of us stayed to record a few more tracks.
At one point, I went into the restroom and turned on the fan. After only a few seconds
I heard the team worshipping loudly in the room outside. It immediately struck me as odd: we were only recording
drum tracks, and being 1:00 am by now, all other instruments had been put away as everyone wound down in our
need to rest. But the music rising over the sound of the fan was unmistakable.
I hurried to finish and opened the door to find a completely silent room. At that moment
I knew I had just experienced the reality of the vision I had had years before. I had heard our praises from hours prior
- still praising as they circled the universe. Still exalting our God for all of eternity.
Yes, most things in this world do not last. "Here today and gone tomorrow" is an accepted
fact. Yet, there is one thing which will never decay, never depreciate, never wear out or cease. The praises
of your lips are a precious treasure to your King which will keep giving unto Him for all time.
